Safety Glass
Product testing is conducted by ERC Testing at our purpose built test facility in Leigh, while final data review then test report issue will be issued, normally within 72 hours.
Fragmentation
There are several glass processes that are subject to fragmentation testing, these included EN 12150-2:2004 Thermally Toughened Glass and EN 14179-2: 2005 Heat Soaked Glass. Samples are broken in a controlled manner and the fragmentation pattern examined to ensure it breaks within the requirements of the appropriate standard.
Mechanical Strength
Determined typically by means of a 4-point bend test to EN1288- 3:2000.
EN 12600: 2002 Impact Resistance
Glass designated as safety glass must have evidence of its classification against EN 12600: 2002 Pendulum test – Impact test method and classification. An impactor consisting of two pneumatic tyres are fitted to a weight so that the total mass of the impactor is 50kg. The impactor strikes the sample at several heights and a classification calculated based on the performance of 12 samples.
